Goblin Scientist works as a backpack repair tool. Exp. #H-301... Huh? lets you pick one item, destroys it and turns it into a random Shop Item, with a 30% chance to go again that round, and three of its stars raise that chance. When a run is stuck with a piece that no longer fits the build, that can rescue it, which is the one job it does well.
The result is random, which is the whole weakness: the new item may be as useless as the old one. Geezer's Special Shop fixes a backpack by letting you choose from three pre-merged items, one of them free from the first star, so it beats the Scientist whenever you own both. At 2 energy, it also competes for the slot a fight pet would use. Holding it adds 9% Total HP across the roster, and that is the part to keep.
